Welcome to: The Japanese Mending Workshop
Meet your host: Hannah
Hannah’s workshops grew from a desire to challenge our throwaway relationship with clothing. After studying Fashion Knitwear at the Royal College of Art and working in the fashion industry, she became increasingly aware of its social and environmental impact. Today, she shares traditional textile skills that help people repair, rework and fall back in love with the clothes they already own, combining creativity, craftsmanship and a refreshingly practical approach to sustainable fashion.
Discover the Art of Japanese Mending.
Bring along a favourite garment in need of a little love and learn how to repair it beautifully using the Japanese art of Sashiko & Boro stitching. You’ll explore traditional stitching and visible mending techniques, working on your own piece as you learn. Nothing to repair? No problem. Everything you need to learn the craft will be provided, so you can leave with the skills to mend, personalise and transform clothes at home.
Workshop Itinerary
As everyone arrives, we’ll welcome you with a relaxed introduction to the Japanese art of Sashiko and the principles behind visible mending. From there, it’s time to get hands-on, learning the stitches and techniques to repair your own garment, or practising on materials provided if you’ve come empty-handed.Duration:

Most of our workshops are hosted at your venue, whether that’s an office, showroom, breakout space, warehouse or somewhere completely different. Where you need us to provide the space, we also have our own venue in the heart of Wapping, ready to host you and your guests.
Please check the Venue Requirements below, as some experiences require specific facilities such as kitchen equipment, extraction, temperature-controlled environments or outdoor space.

Hannah’s workshop is wonderfully simple to host. All we need is a well-lit space with enough tables and chairs for everyone to sit comfortably and plenty of room to work on their stitching. We’ll bring everything else needed for the workshop.
